Why I do what I do….

Ever since I remember, the most fun I had was when I was learning, exploring and sharing. Life seemed so full on with new experiences and challenges. I have always maintained a diary for most part of my life where I note my experiences. I still get immense pleasure when I go through my old tattered diaries and relive those experiences with the ups and downs and the aha’s of the past.

Over the years many things that I wanted to do have been realised and a new quest took its place. As I changed my roles in life, newer horizons opened up making this an insatiable quest.
This page is all about why I do what I do…..

As a child

I grew up in Mumbai, India. Ever since I was a little girl, I remember learning new things and exploring the depths of every subject. Everything was a wonder. I remember I couldn’t wait coming home from school and sharing all that I learned with my mum and dad. I was a part of a huge family on both sides so I could always find someone with a similar interest to share and talk for hours.
I changed school many times as a child due to Dad’s work but I loved it. Every new school was a joy with new friends, teachers and neighbourhood.

In high school, the one thing that I loved about my school was the endless choice of extra curricular activities that I could undertake. And not surprising I found myself learning just about every thing. I remember one of my busiest year was when I was 13. I was learning classical Indian dancing, Singing, Karate, Horticulture, Swimming, Food and Nutrition, Batik and Bandhani (a tie and dye method for traditional Indian dresses), making soft toys….

Looking back I realise that I was never really into just one particular thing. But the fun was more about endless exploration rather than going into the depth of one thing. And I loved every moment of this.

Medical training

My passion for learning reached a whole new depth and focus for the first time when I started training as a homoeopathic medical doctor. Those 6 years were entirely spent in exploring and experimenting the concept of health and disease from both the conventional and homoeopathic models. It opened a whole new world for me. I spend hours delving into the depths of human anatomy, physiology and psychology. I explored the role of how the psyche played a role in disease pathogenesis.

I trained under and worked with experts in the field of both conventional and homeopathic medicine to look at the clinical application and pros and cons of an integrative system. I was genuinely interested in psychosomatic conditions and worked with Psychiatrists who used homoeopathy to get a thorough understanding of that.

I started my own clinic and worked at multiple charitable clinics under supervision just to experiment and explore how these approaches worked for me in clinical situations. Apart from that in my quest for furthering my knowledge I received training in other holistic and personal development fields such as Yoga, Su Jok acupressure, Tai Chi, meditation, counselling and Neuro linguistic programming.

When I was not in clinic or the hospital I was sharing, connecting and discussing my finding and case studies with colleagues through the many discussion groups, workshops and organisations I was associated throughout my training and internship.

After Marriage

And then I met my husband Atul when I was 23. My life took a new turn when I came to a new city. Not surprisingly I soon found a discussion group of local practitioners. I associated with a rural charitable clinic where I could continue my journey and passion.

My husband Atul shared a similar passion and vision for learning. So we decided to work together on an interesting project. Using his computer expertise and my homoeopathic practitioner skills we conceptualised the prototype of a homoeopathic software. The idea was to create a tool that complements the way a practitioner’s mind works during a clinical case to help find the best prescription for their patients. Today that software evolved into HomeoQuest that is being used by thousands of practitioners around the world through this site.

Coming to Australia and being a Mum

For the first few years of my married life we travelled frequently both in India and Europe as a part of Atul’s work. He worked as a software engineer for a German company and spend half the year in Germany. It was disrupting my private practice and our personal life. I was constantly travelling and working in three different cities in India inbetween my German visits.

Finally we decided to settle in one place amd work towards our long term vision. We explored lots of options and finally chose Australia. Our decision seemed completely out of the blue and did shock our families.

It was easier to convince them but I have to admit we were facing our worst fears in the process. Soon we found ourselves in a strange country we had never been to with no job, no family and with very little money just enough to see us through the first few weeks unless we found a job.

What was on our side was that we were young and had a really clear dream of where we wanted to go.

We were still settling in a new country when we decided to start a family. Atul had found a job so I decided to work part time. It worked for me because now I had the time and the space to completely focus on myself and my developing baby.

Being pregnant was the start of a whole new journey for me. I was back into my zone of exploring and learning all about myself and what it meant being a mother. We spent hours delving into what we really wanted as individuals and as parents once the baby was born. It was around that time I also realised that a part of being a parent was also to give ourselves the permission to share our gifts with the world so that our baby can be inspired to do the same.

Living my Vision and the future

The first thing we were very clear when my son Smit was born was that we wanted to create a life work balance that was completely leveraged and flexible to provide us the time, means and the resources to do things what we would love doing in the long term.
Whether it was spending a day with Smit bushwalking and learning about complex numbers from him or choosing to camp in the mountains for a week. Whether it was catching the next flight to spend a time at a charitable clinic in India for a month or making a much bigger impact on the world in our own way.

Once that was clear things started falling in place in unusual ways over the last 7 years. We delved into some amazing ventures and projects that we never would have dreamt of undertaking. There were challenges, obstacles and times of sheer frustration. We made a lot of mistakes and we faced our worst fears. But it was also exciting and sheer fun at other times.

Today Atul and I have created a business model that enables us to work from home and that aligns with our passion.
Apart from the time it provides us to be with each other and our son, it has also made our dream having financial independence a reality. It has also freed our time to undertake things that helps us contribute in making a difference.

One of the many things I derive great joy at the moment is creating a protocol for a charitable hospital in India. The aim is raise the funds for conducting clinical trials to explore the scope of homeopathy in children with mental and physical disabilities. It is a dream come true to be able to use my resources and experience in this way after a long time.

Donna Campisi

In 1978 she was known as The Mystery Girl by the medical practitioners at the Royal Children’s Hospital, as her condition was an extremely unusual case.

With a whole gamut of findings in her diagnosis including right hemiplegia (inability to move right side of body) from damage to the left side of her brain, meningitis (inflammation of brain membranes that protect the spinal cord), staphylococcal septicemia (blood poisoning), aphasia (loss of speech), splenomegaly (enlargement of spleen), endocarditis (inflammation of heart) a hole in her heart along with a heart murmur just to name a few, leaving Donna without the ability to walk. This was a shock to the practitioners and of course to her strong but anxious parents.

As time went on and progress was made, Donna became known as The Miracle Girl to the amazement of the medical team.

After a long period of rehabilitation with encouragement from her parents and medical team, and her own inner strength and determination, Donna developed the ability to walk again, and can very well talk, “Sometimes too much!” Donna claims with a laugh.

It is staggering that she is even here to tell her story, and her attitude of gratitude is very evident when hearing Donna talk of her journey to where she is at this point.

Donna explains: “Somebody asked me about 12 months ago “So Donna, what can’t you do since you have had the stroke?” I had to think about this as I always have focused on what I can do, rather than what I can’t. Good question though!”

The answer: “Running. I have never felt confident in running after having the stroke.”

Donna has decided to not only learn to run again, but to participate in The Melbourne Marathon in October, 2013. She started training in November 2012 with the expert advice from Shaun and Chris, the team at www.brewstersrunning.com

The motivation behind ‘Run Donna Run’ is not only about sharing Donna’s personal journey, but is also helping to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Once upon a time… (just kidding 

… but really, I can’t say I had an easy upbringing…in fact many people who knew me in my earliest years are amazed that I have gone on to do some great things in my life considering the circumstances my family and I faced.  My father committed suicide when I was 4 years old and my mom went on to marry a man 4 years later who ended up spending my college fund and left my mom in over $400k debt.  I made a decision that day to never have to count on anyone else for money ever again…. and so the journey began…

Wanting to leave my past in the past I moved away for college

By the grace of God I was given a full paid academic scholarship to my state college. I left my small town to start my college life. I worked and paid my way through school, barely scraping by. I knew I didn’t want to waste 4 years with no direction so I chose a field that was expanding and in high demand for services…speech therapy.  I had to go on for my master’s degree to work as a speech therapist so I worked to get a scholarship to the University of Arizona to complete my Masters degree. After earning my master’s degree is was time to enter the working world.

With my Master’s degree in hand, tons of student loans and massive credit card debt I entered the working world ready to make some money and make a difference!

For some reason I always knew I didn’t want to work FOR anyone so I started working as an independent contractor which allowed me to be my own boss and make a 6 figure income.  Not bad for a 24 year old!  I bought a house, a new car and figured I would have my debt from college paid off in no time……

NOT QUITE! Well, I spent each day giving my all to my clients and found myself feeling worn out and stressed at the end of each day. The money going out kept increasing and I had to keep working more and more to keep up with all my payments.

I was in the endless cycle of trading time for money and I didn’t foresee an end to the rat race until my far off retirement date! Not very exciting at the age of 25!

So….I started my very own speech therapy contracting business… Southwest Therapy Solution, Inc

I was excited about being a business owner and took all the right steps. Before long I hit many challenges with the contracting world because I was able to get contracts but finding qualified speech therapists to fill the contracts proved to be a challenge.  I felt like I wasn’t doing the world any good by charging the schools top dollar for contracts either.  I knew it wasn’t my path to financial freedom.

Two years into my career, working full time, tired, stressed,  and still haven’t even made a dent in my student loans and credit card debt from grad school…how was this possible??

The opportunity of financial freedom and  wealth came knocking at my door…

I was introduced to the the business model of network marketing and I thought it was brilliant. I LOVED that I was suddenly able to connect with people who were doing inspiring things in their life, living outside the box and creating true financial freedom. I saw so many people succeeding and I knew I could do the same.  I was excited about the idea of doing something bigger and being able to connect and help people far beyond my reach as a speech therapist.

I had a very strong start in my network marketing business…

I was so excited I went out and started sharing with everyone I knew! I created so much promotion and excitement that is seemed that everyone wanted to sign up. I didn’t really know what I was doing all I knew was I was excited. My enthusiasm was contagious. People just wanted to be a part of whatever I was doing.

In fact, within a few short months I was already making enough money to cover my mortgage each month!

I hit a brick wall in my sharing and in my business…

Once I had shared this opportunity with everyone I knew I suddenly hit a brick wall.  Who do I talk to now? All the leaders in my organization could only offer the same advice over and over…go out and talk to people and share your story.  At the same time I started to feel doubt about my ability to achieve my dreams. I started to listen to all the negative people around me telling me I was living in a fantasy.  I actually started to think they were right, maybe network marketing doesn’t work…

I felt like my dreams were going down the toilet….

Once my doubt set in everything seemed to be a struggle For months I was stalling in my business, full of excuses but luckily I never completely gave up. I was way out of my comfort zone and full of self doubt. I tried talking to strangers,  buying and calling leads, placing newspaper ads and flyers everywhere and had MINIMAL SUCCESS. My enthusiasm was fading away quickly and I couldn’t keep up the momentum.

I continually sought out trainings to change my mindset but everything seemed to have short lasting results. My doubt had grown too big. It just seemed so much easier to give up and go back to what I knew..go back to my comfort zone.

In fact, many people in my life kept telling me I should focus on my career as a speech therapist and that I was crazy to even think about doing something different. I had several friends that thought it was all about money for me. What they missed was that I had a burning desire to make a wide reaching difference on the planet and I was determined to never stop until I felt I had reached my goal..

I was frustrated beyond belief but I was determined to find a way to my dreams…I had learned too much about success and mindset at this point to give up!

I KNEW THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY TO LEVERAGE MY TIME AND ATTRACT THE KIND OF PEOPLE I WAS LOOKING FOR SO! IT ONLY MADE SENSE..

I went to the internet for answers…

When I first got on the internet I was overwhelmed by all the information and all the people claiming to have the answers. I started buying ebooks, trainings, and all kinds of things that only made me more overwhelmed.

And then it happened….

I found a community of Internet Marketers and made the right connections.

I started to learn how the Internet worked and how the big money was being made online.

The concept was simple….brand yourself, offer tons of value to others, and solve people’s biggest problems. It had nothing to do with marketing my product or business up front….it had to do with marketing ME, branding ME as a leader and as someone who brings value to the market place. It was brilliant , fun, and it worked.

I put the principles of attraction marketing to work and the results were awesome!

One thing I applied early on was video marketing. This built a ton of trust between me and people all over the world. I suddenly had people contacting me everyday asking if I could help them. I realized how powerful it is to be someone who brings VALUE to others.  I started helping others and focusing on other’s success and that’s when it all turned around for me.

People trusted me and they wanted to learn from me. That’s when I created my first online product.

People kept wanting to learn how I was doing my video marketing so I created a course to teach people the steps. I still remember when I made $14,523 in just a few short days by sharing my product with people. After making my first online training program I was hooked.

I went on to offer high ticket coaching packages and live masterminds to people who wanted more hands on help. Before I knew it I had a successful online marketing business. I had so much more fun doing this that I sold my position in network marketing and focused full time on helping others get results online.

I say GO OUT THERE AND MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE! You will inspire many others to greatness in the process! Be someone who stands for possibility and doesn’t give into living an ordinary life!
